They are pretty much like peppercorns so just as seasoning.

Well there are lots of things that can be used as pepper.
Sichuan pepper is another pepper that isn't from the same family.
Not as good to have in tea tho.
Allspice works tho, it's also a peppery spice.

Hrm...so you could potentially stick them into a grinder and have a different variety of the usual black pepper?

yeah, I've seen grinders that have pink peppercorns in them.
