"To move or to not to move," a slight young man mused aloud as his pale eyes flickered back and forth on the bright computer screen before him. His full attention was centered on the game of solitaire that appeared garishly in front of him. Currently, he was undertaking the heavy decision of whether to move the 5 of spades with its brethren up on top or maneuver it onto a 6 of hearts. The light pink tip of the young man's tongue studiously peeked out as he continued to contemplate on his game of solitaire. After all, his job was basically hours upon hours of pointlessness and perpetual boredom. Honestly, he had no idea what his job even was. All he ever did was mindlessly scroll down his given list, dial numbers, and repeat a string of nonsense to these people. Huh, that actually fit the description of a telemarketer, but it wasn't like he cared. Basically, dead end job equals endless games of (not at all) stimulating solitaire.

The young man was rudely smacked out of his pondering when a shout of "HEY, EVAN!" reverberated through his ears. Sheepishly, the aforementioned Evan slid up and peeked over the walls of his drab cubicle and faced his rowdy coworker. "I swear I was working! I, ah, was actually finishing up the new list the boss gave me." Accentuating his words with a weak nod, Evan flashed a short and sweet smile showcasing his boyish dimples. Overall, his visage was not one you would consider mature. Evan had boyish, almost elfin looks that constantly ended up with him being queried on his age when he dared to step a foot into an alcoholic establishment.

Ducking back into his cubicle to a round a friendly snickering on his diffident behalf, Evan sank back into his seat and glanced over at his computer screen gaudily lit up with reds, greens, whites, and blacks. He ran a hand through his already ruffled and fluffy brown hair when a chance glance out of a window to his right piqued his interest. To put it simply, it seemed so very bright. It did not escape his curious mind that yes, that curious brightness was a fiery blaze. His pupils eclipsed his grey irises in raw shock as silvery plumes of smoke twined in the air. A sickening and rumbling boom shortly followed after when more fires and smoke broke out. It was a surreal moment for Evan when he he comprehended the depth of this atrocity. Familiarity breathed its way through his awed mind when a quick flash of memory revealed a school textbook on the effects of the atomic bombs dropped in Japan. The fiery mushroom shaped cloud escaped it ways from distant history into the horrifying present.

A hideous cacophony of startled cries arose as people glued their faces to the windows and watched smoke and fire engulf land in the distance. "BOMB!" voices cried out in abject horror and fear as the dawn of realization hit them. "Like Japan all over again. Atomic! Nuclear? America. Russia. Always knew the Cold War wasn't the end of it," were snatches of drifting, panicked conversation.

"It's like the whole world's on fire," Evan said in an awed whisper, running a trembling hand through his disheveled hair. To think that if he had been closer Evan and his coworkers would have been dead. Trapped in the flames of death and science. Imagine how many were already dead. Even if people survived, well, everybody knew that the nuclear fallout was going to be the end of them. Speaking of, just because they were outside the immediate range did not mean they escaped unscathed. The effects would stalk the whole world. After all, this was the shaky start of a new war between America and Russia. And when two world powers collided -- the effects were going to be devastating. Allies would jump in after much debating. World War III, literally the entire world caught in the throes of battle. The end of the world was nigh.
