oh my. i watched the clip you linked and almost cried just at that. just the way baby jumbo doesn't understand what the other elephants are saying, so even though they're saying mean things, he's just a happy fascinated baby TT he's been animated to behave so like a baby, his gestures, they tugged at my heart! and when his mother used his flappy ears to swaddle-wrap him! i can't handle it >.< i don't know if i'll ever be brave enough to watch it TT
YES TO THIS. it all fits omg. and it extends the scope of the RP to include arcs however many of the circus characters we'd want to explore. :D
Ohh nooo. <x'} I just showed you like one of the happier clips in that movie! Lol! Not sure you'd be brave enough either, since it gets sad. ;~; But not too sad. <:] No one dies, so that's good. I believe in you! ^_^ You might enjoy Dumbo, up to you if you wanna watch it.
My favorite part in Dumbo as a kid was the infamous Pink Elephants scene, <x'D since it was so batshit crazy. Though it might have frightened a lot of kids my same age, >w>; I found it really the most fun to watch.
Recently found myself tearing up as I watched Dumbo over again. ;u; <3 It's one of my cousin's favorite disney movies, since he'd watch it as a little boy whenever he was sad or scared, and he'd watch it with his mama. Souper sweet. <X] I recommend mucho.
As for the RP:
<XD Then a dark, cursed, contract driven, magical circus carnival it is! :D I'm excited! Are you excited?
^-^ I can't wait to see where our characters go and what sort of enchanting and diabolical situations will occur. O.O
I wonder what the RP should be titled? :] Any ideas?

i think i will probably watch Dumbo when i want a good cathartic cry someday TT if that was a happy clip i can't imagine how the rest of the movie will make me feel. i'll save it for the day i decide i want to wring myself dry of tears xD
h'm. Dark Carnival? Curse of the Carnivalesque? they sound rather dramatic xD
'Devilry, Puppetry' or something with 'Covet' or 'Coveted' in the title? those are my ideas o.o

:D Awesome! I have no objections then. -U- That's a great title!
Now all's left is to sort out the character profiles and the thread. :]
I'll leave that up to you though. ^-^ Seems like I've already done a lot already with my sample characters and all.
Also for RP posting times:
:o I'm typically on Trisphee every day at least for a little bit, and I monitor for new replies and activity on my phone. ^-^ So subscribing to the RP thread will be no problem.
However, :T I usually log off around 10-11pm at night PST (Pacific Standard Time) which might be at a different time where you live I think. ^U^; I tend to get sleepy around that time and have to retire to my cave. :] I seem to have a good track record of waking up in the morning around 8-9pm PST though and sometimes log on after breakfast. ^-^ But please let me know what time is good for RPing for you!

yep! i think i could make one character that interacts more with Gideon, make a detailed character profile for that, and we can insert additional characters, like all the circus ones, as and when needed into the RP. if we do want to make profiles for those additional characters at a later date, or just briefer backstories for them, we can discuss in OOC and just edit the profile posts in the RP and put the extras under spoilers, perhaps. how does that sound to you?
so turns out Pacific Standard Time is 12 hours and 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time, my timezone :B which i kind of expected. usually all my online friends in the US have their day start when mine ends and so on. i do still find that we're both online at the same time, every once in a while, but i sometimes take time over writing RP replies. so while i'd chat with you when we're both online i don't know if i'd be able to get my RP reply up before you log off.
also i might not get up a reply every day (although now, under lockdown, i can get replies up more often). but whenever i go back to college i might only be able to reply on the weekends ;_;

^_^; I too am guilty of taking some time to reply. But that's okay. :D It just means a nice surprise for when I check back later. ^-^
I'm not sure if this lockdown will lift anytime soon, as the US is woefully unprepared for literally any sort of medical hardship. >_>; But luckily I'm staying inside and gettin' some things done. :] I save time usually to reply, but if I don't it may be due to separate illness, or schoolwork, or house duties. :/ I am servant # 1 so I get a lot of orders within a week and am relied on for help with almost everything. x'D As servant #2 gets only the minimum orders. <x'}

:D Sounds great! ^-^ I'll leave the format to you. :] I'll do my best to adapt. -u- And add a couple of my other OCs I think may be extremely appropriate for this Devil's Carnival RP. :D I'll also try to include some sort of visual representation for them.

i think i might follow a similar format to the character profiles you've been sharing with me so far! :D
i relate so hard with being servant #1. my brother won't unstick his ass from his seat, won't pause his gaming, so i end up doing errands for everyone, especially my grandparents and recently my mother, too.

Same herrrree! <x/ Honestly I hope my own brother learns to flippin' do the laundry and dishes one day, so I'm taking a protest vacation from a couple of my duties to give him the opportunity, since he's not given the priority or responsibility. B[ He games more than I do and I get scolded for playing ALL day?? <x'D I can do little else but laugh at it. >u> *sigh* and try to remember that my family is completely helpless without me. I may not know how to do much, but I am the sole entertainer, advisor and tech assistant.~+ -U-
My mom can't even use our printer unless I'm there to help. <x'} My poor extroverted family, I have to console them when I am social distancing. I say, as I socially distance with metal songs on a Sunday... >w>
I've already sorta started on some separate side OCs for the RP. :D Haven't finished with their backstories completely but I have sorted out their looks. ^-^ I'll let you know that a couple of them have animal companions, and there's a set of twins. ^-^
Edit: Oh! o.o and I came up with some alternate curses that happen only at night for them all, with a couple of them having a sort of alter ego persona, and for others curses that come with their contract.
>u>; Gideon himself has a handful to deal with.

Oh dear...I seem to have
accidentally
sorta
made like,
10 profiles!??
<x'D I got way too excited for this RP, lol!
that is AMAZING. SPLENDIFEROUS. SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS.
throw all 10 of those profiles at me! i'm still juggling drafting two profiles, but i'd like to see yours so as not to make characters that are too similar. i'll try to make enough characters to match with yours even if they'll probably be more bare-bones than your profiles. (i mean, i doubt i would end up making any characters similar to yours, you're so creative and detailed, but just in case.) i mainly don't want to write abilities (like contortion, sword-swallowing etc.), desires (what they asked the devil for) and curses to overlap too much with yours. i'm not concerned about the other stuff since i'm pretty sure you'd have unique backstories and other details judging from all the OCs you've shared with me so far.

<XD Ahaha, okie dokie!
Welp. 3 out of the 10 are like, double-person themed, so it might actually be 13??? <x'D Not at all a bad luck number lol!
:D Makes sense. I'm hoping one of your characters might be a trapeze artist, knife thrower or magician or orchestra composer, as none of my characters are those.
Here are the profiles. :d lemme just sort them out...I'll include their little nifty TLDRs just in case you wanna come back and read, 'cause some of them are LONG. <8} Accidentally forgot to stop writing. <x'D
Gideon
TLDR: Already cursed pirate man wants to find his pa, so he signed the paper which gives him his wish, in exchange for his performance, and some hand trouble during the night.
Gideon Stroggard
Age: 28
Species: Human
Appearance: Neck length, dusty hay-colored hair, and dark teal eyes. Young but ragged and scrappy, with hair peppering down his jawline and chin. His ears are both pierced with one lobe holding a golden stud and loop, and the other holding a dulled fishhook. He wears a worn down tan shirt, with it’s collar sticking up, his ripped sailor slacks, trampy black boots, and his old, weathered, dark navy coat with belts across his waist and one over his chest. However his most recognizable trait, being the first thing people notice about him, are the large sandy brown feathery wings coming out of his back.
Background: Though he has not yet put an end to the curse of his wings, Gideon, for the most part, has learned how to live with them. He still doesn’t care for birds, and vice versa. Birds don’t seem to take a liking to him either. Though he is a show pirate, and he knows he must act, while performing, he feels a sense of freedom to expressing the adventure in his heart. He trains everyday to keep his strength up and his health in good shape. During the day he picks up as many fruits and vegetables and grains as he can for meals and snacks, sometimes going as far as stealing them. He doesn’t have many friends in the circus he travels with, but he likes to consider himself a performer rather than a freak oddity. He does like the attention he gets for his wings by ladies, but he likes attention more from people who don’t seem to care about his odd appearance. He also tends to get into trouble only to get himself or someone else out of it.
Gideon made a deal with the carnival owner about a year before, signing a magic contract that kept him as part of it’s show for as long as eternity or when the contract is fulfilled. He agreed to it’s terms, including a shackling curse placed on him to stop him from leaving and from living the same way he lives during the day. At night, his personal curse causes his hands to leave his wrists any time he attempts to pick up anything from a surface. His detached hand will continue moving and behaving in a most troublesome manner, while a new hand grows from his wrists. Every time this happens, Gideon makes it a point to immediately catch and kill his rouge hand, or it will eventually cause damage to someone.
In exchange for his cooperation and services, Gideon wished to find his father, and unknowingly signed his very life away in the hopes of seeing him again after so many years lost. He doesn’t care if his wings provoke his father, or if he is far away across the sea. He simply wishes to see him once more. The contract he signed promises him that he will see his father again, and will be fulfilled once they have met eyes.
Circus Job: Freakshow Performer
Alternate Curse: At night he cannot pick anything up off a surface, or his hand holding something will detach from the wrist and misbehave, while a new controllable hand grows in its place. This includes him picking up his own detached hand.
Jack and Philipe
TLDR: Demon possessed by human soul share a body together and want two different things, so they signed the paper for fame, fortune and friends in exchange for their talents and now they can’t share their body like they used to.
Jovukarth “Jack” Glumm / Philipe Blanco
Ages: Ageless as a Demon and 20
Species: Demon and Human Spirit
Appearance: Tan skinned, thin with an average athletic build. His shadow black hair is cut in a long mohawk style and his face is clean shaven. His ears are pointed at the tip and carries numerous piercings, additional ones on his brow and lip. Eyes are demonic red and deep, except for when Philipe is present, then his eyes become Philipe’s which are a soft green. He wears dark jackets and slacks, tanks and belts, typically his boots are steel toe and may or may not be stained with blood.
Background: Straight from the depths of hell itself, a loner, loser, pitiful demon the size of a child attached itself to a wandering human boy passing by. Years went by and the toll of housing a demon host was too much to bear for the boy and he tragically died at the age of 17. Though the demon felt guilty about causing the boy’s death, he was more afraid of being alone once more, and he selfishly took the boy’s blood and used it to craft a vessel for him to live in. Then he caught hold of the boy’s soul before it could rest for eternity, and reeled it into himself. Since then, the pair have been housed in one accursed body, immortal and youthful. The boy was thankful he had a second chance at life, even though it was at the hands of the demon’s control.
The boy’s name was Philipe Blanco. He was sweet and shy and very polite. Quite the polar opposite of the demon whose body is his home. In life he was a ambitious vocalist and musician, and he still holds music in his soul.
The demon’s name was Jovukarth, but since humans are dumb as hell and can’t pronounce the names of demons properly, he just goes by “Jack”. Jack is a bit of a punk, and a ruthless miscreant. He is a greedy, lustful, devious demon with an affinity for getting people to break the rules, let loose and be a bit sinful. However he is not entirely horrible, as proven by his mannerisms towards those brave enough and daring enough to tolerate his antics and know him well enough. This includes Philipe.
As a gesture of being a good host (literally), Jack often lets Philipe come out and use his body to do as he pleases sometimes. This share of power over a single vessel, though demonic, is a gift from Jack to Philipe. They can communicate directly and psychically with one another, usually in mirrors, as it’s easy for demons to jump their conscious minds into them in the form of a reflection. With Jack’s help, Philipe has become somewhat of a famous singer and musician, and has found comfort in being with people he misunderstood and even warming up to animals.
One day however, after landing in hot water with a particularly dangerous man, (a holy assassin) Jack took to a circus to hide himself in with the other freaks. However upon getting there, he noticed the freaks were not at all impressive, and he quickly found the carnival owner to complain. The owner offered him a job as a freak if he wanted it, but Jack refused, instead asking for protection from outside people in the form of gaining fame and fortune. In his mind, if someone is famous and wealthy enough, he can get them to follow him, believe him, worship him, and defend him. And any fanatics would be easy to deal with. Philipe piped up, and though he tried to tell Jack it wouldn’t be wise to just sign himself away to the carnival without knowing the consequences, his opinion meant little in regards to Jack’s desire. Philipe was promised a wish of his own to be fulfilled by the owner, and he humbly declined, only wanting to forge better friendships and memories, because all the people Jack meets don’t really feel like friends. Jack spoke up and quickly agreed the contract’s terms, citing Philipe’s wish and including him along with him in the deal. The contract provided them both a job and basic comforts in the traveling carnival, and included a sacrificial curse of it’s own. Instead of having the freedom of switching consciousness within Jack’s body, Jack would be conscious during the daytime where he felt the least comfortable, and Philipe would be conscious during the entirety of the night time, where He felt the least comfortable. They also would not be able to converse with one another directly anymore, and would need to communicate via notes. The likewise would not be able to recall or be aware of what the other was doing during the time they are in control. The contract will be fulfilled and their limiting curse broken, once Jack has a certain number of fans and Philipe has a certain number of friends.
Circus Jobs: Daredevil/Stunt Performer and Escape Artist
Alternate Curse: Philip is forced to come out during the night as a dreary one-act, while Jack is a star performer during the day, preventing them from letting one or the other take control freely as they once did before.
Zuza Merani
TLDR: Half-genie orphan lady gets dumped by her family, and she is scared of her genie heritage so she tries not to die until she signs the paper to be a fortune teller and become immortal, but now she’s bad luck.
Madame Zuza Merani
Age: 37
Species: Half Djinn Half Human
Appearance: Short and curvy, with sandy skin, and short eyebrows. Her fiery blue hair is long and thick and tied into a high ponytail. Eyes are imperial topaz in color and are complimented with mysterious desert eye make up. Her nails are painted to match her gold jewelry she wears. Rings, bangles, necklaces, earrings, a beaded belt and coin headpiece. She is dressed as a fortune teller, in long purple skirts, a corset, and flowy to-the-elbow sleeves.
Background: Raised by a band of gypsies, Zuza’s family was always poor, always travelling and always keeping to themselves. When she was a teenager, she realized she had certain abilities and unnatural qualities about her, and asked about her real parents. Her adopted family told her that they found her seemingly lifeless in the casket of one of their own, and thought she was left by some other woman who left her for dead. But when the body in the casket turned into smoke, and she seemingly gained color and began to move. The tribe of gypsies believed they had witnessed a miracle and took her in as a remarkable child, but a few of them thought they would be bringing in a curse by adopting her. One day, she was left alone in the desert while her tribe left her behind, afraid of her power. Zuza felt lost and alone and saddened at this abandonment out of fear.
When she wandered for days in the desert, at last arriving at an oasis, she discovered that she had not been wandering for days, but had instead been wandering for months. She couldn’t understand how she had not died during all that time, and she discovered from a medium living and caring for the people traveling through her oasis, that she was not entirely human. The woman told her that her spirit was that of a Djinn and was therefore unable to die, as Djinn can possess humans and influence them to do their biddings. The Djinn had seemingly given up it’s ghostly form and had installed life into her body as an infant, along with changing her appearance, and granting her some of it’s powers. However she is not saved from illness, injury or death, as Djinn who possess people speed up the time the have to live and they live much shorter lives than others.
Upon returning to a civilized place, Zuza saw fit to use her powers and abilities to earn money for herself, and survive as long as she could. Unable to sleep or rest, she constantly worried about dying and getting hurt or sick, becoming very reclusive and careful. For years, she felt herself dying, and couldn’t stop the feeling of dread, until a traveller approached her. He was the owner of a carnival and stressed that he could use someone like her. Zuza, afraid that a carnival would speed up her death even more, declined. The man left, and returned the next day with a proposition and a sheet of paper. According to the contract, Zuza would have her deepest and strongest desire fulfilled if she agreed to come work in his carnival in exchange. Zuza, used to travelling for most of her life, did feel very insecure and trapped in a singular place, and she knew it was likely killing her. She signed the contract, wishing for immortality, and safety from death. The curse that she would have to overcome and live with during the nightly hours of the carnival, assured bad luck to follow her wherever she went. She would not be able to control or prevent the numerous accidents, fires, misfortune, superstition and injuries that constantly plagued the area around her at night. Though with her abilities, she is sometimes able to help heal the misfortune after it happens. The contract protects her from death and will be fulfilled the moment her Djinn soul matures and claims her body, making her a full immortal Djinn, which can take anywhere from 50 to 100 years.
Circus Job: Fortune Teller/Medium
Alternate Curse: At night, she turns into a harbinger of bad luck wherever she goes.
Pho Li and Sang Li
TLDR: Twin acrobatic siblings sign paper to help save their mom and to get hella rich and famous, but they gotta do tricks while at night one grows a tail and the other looks hideous.
Pho Li and Sang Li
Ages: Both 19 with Pho being the older twin
Species: Both Human
Appearances: Light skinned, both with blonde hair and red eyes. Pho wears her hair in twin buns tied with red ribbons, and her bangs cover her eyebrows. Sang’s hair is slightly darker blonde and short, with his side bangs covering his brow. Pho is short, nimble and flexible, and wears gold and red. Likewise, Sang is short, but taller than his sibling, with a similar flexibility, but wears dark greys and whites when he is not performing with his sister.
Background: Pho and Sang Li are twin brother and sister from a far off land. They claim to have been partially raised by a forgotten river god, and were blessed with the spirit of the air. As such, they have been acrobats since childhood, and were kept healthy and safe in the mountains where they lived as a family with the river god in harmony.
Though taught discipline, respect and overall selflessness, Pho was drawn to a perfect future with an ideal man, wealth and influence. Sang was however attracted to freedoms beyond peaceful conservation and self-centric pursuits like indulging in new foods, company and knowledge. They strayed from the river god’s teachings and disobeyed his wishes for them to continue living beside nature and peace. This angered and deeply hurt the river god that raised them, and he left their lives abruptly, bringing a flood onto their home and as a result their parents tragically drowned.
Grieving and left without a home and without a means to afford food or a place to sleep, the twins took refuge in the shadows and allies of cities, stealing in order to eat. A peddler they were about to steal from stopped them and suggested they perform for money so they could afford what they needed. The twins disagreed with one another, Sang wanting to keep to himself and steal to get by, while Pho wanted to try to perform. She thanked the kind peddler, and they lived as street performers, earning money each day.
One day the two had accumulated enough money to travel to a larger city in the east, where there were more people, more places, more food, and more money. There they found out that their mother was alive and living with another husband who was trying to take care of her, but she was very sick with an unknown illness. The twins thought their mother was being afflicted with a sickness the river god must have placed upon her after she nearly drowned and was thought to be dead. Sadly, they wished they could help her, but their money was not enough to help get her the help she needed, AND help themselves. Soon after in the big city, they were then approached by a strange foreigner and offered more money to them if they came along with him as a part of his travelling carnival. Before they could accept his offer, they both consulted with one another, and decided to think about it.
Naive and young, the twins saw a way to fame, fortune, happiness and freedom in the circus, but also as a means to finding someone who could cure their mother. Sang was the most excited to be a star performer and have enough money to get himself anything he wished, including candy and tattoos. Pho saw it as a chance to show off her skills, to look beautiful and flaunt herself, and hopefully attract a man, as well as to learn new skills. Right away they agreed to the contracts the carnival owner gave them not caring for the consequences that might befall them. Their wish was to become well known, popular and happy, whilst having their mother come along to live with them, and being cured of her illness. The contract would see to it that the three of them would travel with the carnival and the twins would perform. It promised their mother to be cured within the limits of their desires fulfilled to be famous and find happiness. Once they were satisfied with their new lives, the contract would be broken with their mother cured, and their nightly curses lifted. Pho-Li would undergo a strange transformation at night, with the tail and strength of a dragon, while her brother Sang-Li would lose his hair and face each night, having nothing but bone, eyes and muscle exposed, looking horrendous.
Circus Jobs: Acrobat/Contortionist and Acrobat/Balancing Juggler
Alternate Curse: At night Pho Li becomes uncharacteristically stronger and she grows a long reptilian tail which she cannot get rid of until the morning when it disappears, while Sang Li loses his face and hair entirely and must wear a mask so he doesn’t horrify people.
Gali Mottwax
TLDR: Young girl with talent for taming wild creatures is from a family that is looked at like criminals, and signed the paper to help her family and their animals, but she has to perform and at night she switches sexes.
Gali Mottwax
Age: 16
Species: Half Elf Half Human
Appearance: Average height but muscular, with youthful dark tan skin. Her hair is short, to her neck and a pale light green color. Eyes are bright and lovely pink, and has a small star shaped tattoo beside one eye. Her ears are pointed and slender with one piercing each for her gem earrings. Also has a necklace with an animal’s tooth on it. She wears bright red, gold and white, with sturdy shoes, easy-to-move in clothing, and is a stranger to most dresses and skirts.
Background: Gali’s family name is one that was frowned upon in her home city. One of her ancestors was an infamous killer, monstrous criminal and was thought to turn into an evil creature hellbent on causing destruction and strife wherever he roamed. Because of this, Gali’s parents have always been ashamed of their family name and the looks they would get when it was discovered what their family name was. Unfortunately this also meant Gali was avoided, bullied and ostracized for most of her childhood. Her mother gave her comfort, being a beautiful elf, and helped her cope with her loneliness. Her mother gifted her a pet whom she could play with and develop a friendship and bond with. It was a magical cat native to her mother’s homeland, which had the ability to change colors.
The cat, which Gali named Ashes for it’s initial black coat, became her closest and very first friend. Growing up with Ashes, Gali learned about cats big and small, magical and non-magical, and she became a beast-tamer like her father. Whereas her father specialized in the comfort, raising, training and preservation of hooved animals, Gali stuck with felines. She eventually lost her beloved cat Ashes to an illness which could not be cured, not even by magical means, as the magical breed of cat inflicts the illness upon itself when it senses hardship in the future.
Heartbroken, Gali buried Ashes in the special spot near her home, in the woods where they used to play together. Upon hearing her crying in the deep woods, another magical cat stalked her from behind, about to pounce. But as Gali was about to become it’s prey, a larger magical cat came and stopped it from killing her. The cat was a shiftpaw, a large predatory cat which had the ability to change it’s appearance and it’s bodyshape in moonlight. Gali was shocked to see the shiftpaw had taken an extraordinary liking to her and protected her out of selflessness. She allowed it into her life to comfort her during the loss of Ashes, and in her newfound strife as a young teen.
Though her mother warned her that shiftpaws could turn into deadly creatures if angered, Gali felt confident in keeping the cat regardless and training him. She gave the shiftpaw a home, food, and regular attention and affection, naming it Tango, after the dance which reminded her of the way the cat moved.
When one day her father had a sudden loss of business, and could no longer support the animals that he was caring for, he had little choice but to try to sell them away, which was easier said than done. No one trusted him well enough to even buy livestock or deer from him. Rumors began to swirl that he would kill his own animals to save himself if he couldn’t sell.
Upset that her family may go hungry and they would have to say goodbye to their precious animals, Gali ran away with Tango. Though breaking her parent’s hearts, and they no doubt still search for her, she had traveled out of her homeland into strange parts.
Sadly no matter where she went with Tango, people were frightened and some even drove her away once they saw the big cat beside her. She then ran into a shady woman who expressed no fear of her. She offered Gali a place to stay and food if she would tell her about the cat. The woman actually wanted to kill the large magic cat for it’s medicinal properties, and once Gali discovered this, she fled the woman’s home with Tango, once again alone. Until she found a travelling carnival tent.
She visited the carnival and though the spectators already mistook her for a performer, she was not, and she simply improvised. The owner came over to her and offered her a job, explaining the properties of the contract she would need to sign and agree to.
More than anything in the world, Gali simply wanted her and her family to be accepted by others, clearing their family name, and restoring it’s honor back. She figured if she was a great beast tamer and a friend to all animals, people would see that the Mottwax family were not monsters. She agreed to the terms of the contract, and signed away without a second thought. According to the contract however, she would be subjected to a nightly curse, in which she would abruptly become male until the sunlight touches her skin. The contract would be fulfilled and the curse with it broken, once her family name was no longer feared by the people in her home city, and her father could continue his business again.
Circus Job: Beast Tamer/Stunt Performer
Alternate Curse: At night, Gali becomes a young man and must protect herself from her cat and from others who want to pick a fight.
Hakim Shariq
TLDR: Gentle bird aristocat boy doesn’t wanna marry a girl, he loves the ancient king he woke up in the desert, so he signs the paper to see his love again, which he will but he has to perform and also deal with being a temporary vampire.
Hakim Shariq;Prince of Falcons
Age: 22
Species: Human
Appearance: Lean and tall, with dark skin. Has short dusty blue-grey hair with long bangs at the front and sides. He has dark brown eyes which become more and more golden in the sunlight. Clean shaven, with his brows thick and usually held with a relaxed expression. He has a variety of clothes, but wears either a deep red or green with some gold, and are that of a desert dweller with long sleeves that can be rolled and pinned back, sashes, robes and shawls. He also wears gold earrings, collars, necklaces and a pair of gold wrist bracelets with ancient words branded into them. He also has a gold necklace he hides under his clothes with a royal family’s crest on it.
Background: Native to the desert lands, much like Zuza, Hakim was born into a wealthy family of nobles, which worshipped the old gods of the sun and stars. Most of his family, including his many brothers and sisters went off to become either healers or preservers of the ancient knowledge buried in the sands for thousands of years. They protected the tombs of old, and though Hakim paid homage and respected the ancients, his interests drove him to become a falconer. It was a noble pursuit his family approved of since the practice was itself ancient, and carried honor through keeping it alive. Hakim learned from another family specializing in falconry, how to train the birds to locate places, deliver messages, fetch items, perform diving aerial tricks, and to hunt. The falcons he could tame became gifts to him, and he learned to train most any predatory bird, from eagles to hawks to vultures. Falcons were however his favorite.
One day Hakim’s mother took him to meet a woman matchmaker who matched him with a girl no older than 12. Though he hated the idea of making his parents disappointed he rejected her proposal, which did not go well. He would be forced to marry within the next year of his life, and betrothed to a young woman whom he wouldn’t meet until the day they married. Hakim took to escaping one night into the desert tombs which his family protected and guarded. He sat in what was thought to be an empty tomb, and he silently wished he would simply be as free as the birds he trained to fly away from his predicament. He did the unthinkable and the most forbidden thing he could have possibly done to his family’s reputation, and disrespected the tomb, by breaking off a seal from an empty sarcophagus. He quickly discovered the casket was not at all empty, and a inside it, the sand materialized into a figure, long thought dead and aslumber in the sand. The figure, Hakim recognized as one of the lost ancient lords of the desert, known as The Alchemist King. Hakim rand from the tomb in fear, and back to his home where he hid in his chambers.
The ancient resurrected royal would prove to be quite clever and stealthy, seemingly possessing ancient knowledge of magic and science that humans have never quite gained. Hakim was the only one the king appeared to, keeping his existence a secret from his family and their animals. Because he was freed and awoken from his slumber trapped in his tomb, he sought to thank Hakim with reward. But Hakim simply wished to live his life without a wife which was impossible. The Alchemist King counseled him, and shared knowledge beyond human understanding with him, including the truth about his entombment, who he truly was, what he did thousands of years ago, and how he invented falconry. The more time Hakim spent with the ancient king, the more he started to unknowingly fall in love. By the time he was to marry his betrothed, Hakim sought the Alchemist King for help. He was given a golden necklace, ancient but well made, from around the king’s neck. The Alchemist King explained to Hakim that his family seal will appear on the necklace, and with that, he is bound to the king in a bond stronger than marriage.
When his parents saw the ancient necklace, they wrote it off as their own family crest into gold proving their role as guardians of the tombs and places of old, and dragged Hakim away to get married anyway.
Upon their wedding night, Hakim confessed to his new wife that he could not continue the marriage and released her from their bond with their rings taken off and he sent them away on one of his birds to be disposed of in the sands. He told her he was promised to someone else, but would not say who. Just then the Alchemist King had appeared and startled her. She ran to tell the rest of the family, though Hakim could not stop her. Once they knew the truth, about what he did in releasing the ancient king, acquiring knowledge for himself alone, and worse yet, falling in love with him, he would be disowned and forever shamed.
The Alchemist King, comforting Hakim, told him that he would leave and disappear in a safer place in the world and to meet him there, where they could be together freely and in peace. He gave Hakim his own wrist bracelets with the ancient words for “Sun” and “Moon” imprinted on them, and told him with them he could keep them. With a tearful goodbye, the Alchemist King vanished into the night, and Hakim was left alone to tend to his family and his new wife.
Soon after, Hakim left his home abruptly and ran off with two of his birds, travelling to the nearby city in order to board a boat that would take him across the land and into lands he had never traveled. He sent one bird away, to search for any clue as to where the Alchemist king might have gone, while the other stood behind to help him along. Upon arriving at the next city, and with no luck searching, he came across a man following him. He confronted the man, but to his surprise, he was foreign and rather odd. He explained that he owned a carnival and wondered if he wanted to be employed.
Hakim refused, telling the man he is too busy searching for someone to even think of employment. But the man offered to help him find who he seeks with a special contract. Hakim, trusting a foreign man to be dismissive and unversed in the ways of his culture, cautiously agreed to the conditions of the contract. He was promised to find The Alchemist King once again, and reunite with him in the safe place he was told of. In exchange, along with his employment as a beast tamer, he had to live with a nightly curse in which he would grow very weak and pale, with an odd craving and urge for blood and flesh, like a vampire. The contract would be fulfilled and the curse broken as soon as Hakim reunites with The Alchemist King and his feelings are reciprocated.
Circus Job: Beast Tamer
Alternate Curse: During the night Hakim transforms to become more vampiric, needing blood and flesh to satisfy his hunger.
Tickles “TJ”
TLDR: Sadistic, disturbed, angry sociopathic man wants revenge on his horrible family, so he signs the paper to get it, but also because he likes being a silly psycho.
Tickles the Clown
Age: Unknown, but seemingly in his late 30’s
Species: Human but might not be for long
Appearance: Very short, but not dwarf height. No one is too sure how he looks like with his make up off, as he wears it all of the time. His harsh, slick back hair is dark green and purple, underneath the wigs he puts on. Has icy blue eyes with a constant look of unpredictability in them. He wears gloves on his hands, a colorful and/or patterned clown costume, and large funny shoes. He usually selects striped shirts, and a bowtie. The most unsettling thing about his appearance however is his wide smile and long teeth.
Background: TJ, as he was known by everyone around him, was a very vengeful and cruel child, raised in a humble town, with an older brother. His brother was far more perfect and favorable to his parents and this was upsetting to TJ, as he was lacking the attention he sought. The more he grew, the more twisted and dangerous he got, and eventually his parents wanted him locked away and kept away from the world out of the safety of others. His parents had confessed to him that he was a mistake and they hated him even from a young age, when he would throw rocks at them. His brother was then acknowledged as their only son, and TJ was simply a monster that happened to exist in their home. With that they imprisoned him in their basement and kept alive but restrained there for years.
He evenutally escaped his imprisonment from his parents, and though his family got away from him, he swore they would pay for his mistreatment. He stalked their every move from city to town to village. However he was nearly always two steps behind, and could never seem to track them for very long before losing them again. He wandered as a thief, mugger, and possible murderer to satisfy his angry urges. He grew more mad and began speaking to his parents and brother as if they could hear him, cursing at them and laughing at them.
One day, as he was on his way back to the abandoned shack he lived in, and scared children away from, he encounted a man that was laughing a little too loudly. This pissed TJ off, thinking the man was laughing at him for his height, and the man explained he was laughing at his own height. Then he said he was laughing at the many fun possibilities he saw for TJ, offering him the chance of a lifetime to fulfil his deepest and darkest desire.
Jumping at the chance, TJ agreed to join the man’s travelling carnival as a trickster clown, and finding home in a place that will allow him to be who he is. He quickly signed away, agreeing to the terms of the contract, in pursuit of sweet violent revenge against his family. He didn’t care that he had to perform and be humiliated before an audience for entertainment. He embraced it, since he would get his revenge. Everyday he wears a creepy but happy grin, and fantasizes about how he’ll get to torture and kill his own family. Though at night, he would be subject to the contract’s binding curse, which caused him to always tell the truth no matter what. He could no longer hide his intentions or any information he knew and was asked about. The contract would be fulfilled as soon as his family were dead and gone, however TJ would not likely leave the circus life, even though he would no longer be bound to it. He enjoys scaring guests, the fear-driven attention he gets from others, the people he is allowed to kill, and the many rewards he receives for being such an excellent clown.
Circus Job: Clown
Alternate Curse: At night he is typically unhinged and violent, but he is also, temporarily, no longer able to lie about anything to anyone.
Rosa and Sunny
TLDR: Extremely nervous girl wants not to be so nervous anymore, so she can be together with her crush, but she signs a paper with her in hopes their fears and suffering will be gone, so they are now performing girls, but now at night she will shrink with every yawn she lets out. The other girl just becomes hot, but like, burning coals hot.
Rosa Delgado
Age: 31
Species: Human
Appearance: Tall, tan skinned, long, wavy dark brown hair, and very attractive in appearance. Has almost dark brown, almost black eyes, with an alluring but serious expression. She wears cropped or revealing black tops, and short skirts, with blue and white jewelry around her neck and ears. Otherwise, she walks about in pants and a tight top.
Background: Rosa came from a family across the valley, and was always a fearful little girl growing up. Most of her friends abandoned her for more likable friends that weren’t scared of the dark, dogs, or even things made of glass. Rosa was afraid of many things, making it tough for her to try anything. New foods, going outside her own room, and even attending school lessons. She wished she wasn’t so plagued with fear and knew it was taking over her life.
Later on in life, she slowly overcame a couple of her fears, but one of them in particular reared it’s head at her rather intensely. She was afraid of her own attraction towards other girls. It terrified her, and at the same time, made her feel chest butterflies and a ringing in her head echoing her heart. She couldn’t speak to girls and she soon became aloof to everyone around her, hardly even brave enough to make eye contact for very long. She was left lonely and upset at herself for her fears and insecurities, her family not understanding why she was still so fearful and worried she might be stupid and impossible to help.
One day she accidentally ran into a beautiful young woman like her, only more beautiful than she had ever seen another woman. Rosa quickly ran away from her once she got her things together and rapidly apologized. She couldn’t help but think about her after their encounter, since she was very lovely looking and seemingly very polite. She was once more afraid of leaving her home, this time, for fear of running into her again. And she was right.
As soon as she left her home again, the young woman stood in front of her house, with a basket of flowers and fresh grapes as a token of goodwill towards her new neighbor. It seemed the young woman had just moved into the town Rosa lived in from afar, and wanted to greet her after seeing her come home a week ago, seemingly sad. The young woman introduced herself gingerly to Rosa, who stood frozen in fear, hoping to get her to speak. Her name was Sunny, and she was indeed very kind. But to Rosa’s surprise and utter shock, she too was interested in women.
Poor Rosa couldn’t take her heart pounding so loudly, and her hands from trembling, though she tried to hide her absolute terror with silence and a neutral expression. Sunny did most of the talking upon their meetings in the morning together before school lessons, and she eventually saw Rosa’s fears begin to dissipate. Rosa eventually grew to truly love Sunny and found courage at last one day, pulling her out of the way of someone’s wagon. This led to Rosa speaking more, and opening up to Sunny a bit more, as well as taking on a newfound fearless persona. She was courageous and would face her fears if it meant keeping Sunny safe and sound. But regarding most other things, she was still quite afraid, even though she got much better at pretending she was never afraid of anything. Rosa knew that deep inside, if Sunny had left her life, she would go right back to being afraid just as she was before she met Sunny, and she refused to go back to being that way.
She learned to embrace her fear of the dark, her fear of people, her fear of judgement, and her fear of rejection all in one sitting, once Sunny seemed to look favorably upon Rosa’s newfound confidence and personal improvement.
One day, years after their school lives together, a passing circus came to town, and Sunny took Rosa to see it. Rosa stood bewildered and nervous, finding something new to be afraid of every moment. They went to a psychic medium’s tent, in which their fortunes were read. Rosa was afraid of her future and didn’t want it told to her. While Sunny was told by the medium that great suffering would befall her despite her housing a spirit of nature. Rosa’s fear of losing Sunny, the lovely girl next door, her only light in the world and her close friend, exploded within her. Calming her anxieties, Sunny assured her that she would be fine, and wouldn’t have her be afraid of something she could change. If she could get over the fears associated with a carnival, she could over come any fear at all. She suggested that since Rosa was too afraid to work anywhere outside her own home, she could ask for a job at the carnival. She also offered her support for her, and encouraged her to try. Rosa, realizing she was right, agreed to ask.
While meeting with the owner of the carnival, Sunny went with Rosa to help her speak on her behalf, and to be there as a comforting support. The owner offered Sunny a job instead, as a dancer, and magic assistant, as she was incredibly attractive and would be perfect for the role. Sunny, knowing Rosa might back out if she refused and tried to get Rosa the job, accepted. This surprised Rosa, as Sunny’s family would likely never approve. But Sunny held her hand, with an assuring smile. She insisted to the carnival owner, that Rosa be given a job too. Delighted, the owner agreed, putting forth contracts for the both of them. Sunny signed, her desire being to prevent the harmful or fatal suffering that will come in her life, so Rosa wouldn’t have to sign her contract for that reason. Rosa, finding her courage, signed away, and agreed to the contract’s terms, in exchange for her major fears to disappear from her life. The contracts would be fulfilled as long as Rosa gets over more than half of her fears, and as long as Sunny suffers at least 800 different ways. Until then, they would be travelling with the carnival together, safe and under it’s protection and rules. Their contracts also included their particular nightly curses, which unfortunately prevented them from having much alone time together. Rosa is cursed to shrink in size each time she yawns at night, and Sunny is cursed to take up her natural spirit’s inner element of fire, turning into one hot woman, literally, unable to touch anything without burning it.
Alternate Curse: At night, every time she yawns she shrinks smaller and smaller but returns to normal in the sunlight.
Sunny Legrand
Age: 29
Species: Half Nature Spirit Half Human
Appearance: Slender, delicate and attractive, with light skin. Her hair is long and blonde with lavender dyed streaks. Eyes are large and soft, colored a light magenta. Her skin is near flawless and she has no issue showing it off, wearing light or airy clothing. She keeps her hair neatly tied back or otherwise around her shoulders and chest. Her jewelry is limited to a black necklace which seems to compliment with Rosa’s white necklace. She wears a white ring around her ring finger which she sometimes uses to protect herself from men who are interested in her, even though she is not married.
Alternate Curse: At night she transforms into a fire nymph and must be careful touching anything or she will burn it.
Ovie
TLDR: Soft fire fairy wants humans to leave her kind the hell alone, so she signs a paper to keep them from finding her people, and must help light up the carnival, while at night her legs are unavailable.
Ovie of Pyrona
Age: Ageless as a Fairy
Species: Fire Fairy
Appearance: Slender and small, the size of a butterfly. Her skin is very warm and a glowing orange. Her small eyes are a bright almost-white yellow, like the center of a candle flame. Her short hair is made of flames and flow constantly around her head and dipped pointed ears. Her wings are as bright and luminous as her eyes, and glow as she uses them to fly around. Usually wears ashy black clothing and sometimes light stockings on her legs. No jewelry, because she outshines precious stones and metals. She does however paint her nails and shadow her eyes.
Background: Ovie unknowingly wandered into the human domain one day, after getting lost far outside her home fairy village. She came to a small town where she encountered humans living simply and without the comforts she had. She wished she could take pity on the humans there, but she had always been told that humans are selfish, destructive and dangerous creatures, always looking to find something to eat or destroy. This was proven by the way the cut down the forest’s trees for firewood, instead of using the rocks or relying on natural magic to help them. It was also proven that they kill animals and creatures for sport and for fame or money. Ovie thought this behavior to reflect on all humans and stood away from them.
When she eventually found her way home, she realized how close her village was to the humans living around her, and felt like her fairy friends and family were all in impending danger. Unfortunately, there was little she could do about it and she sought to try and act as a chosen diplomat to the humans, to get them to leave the fairy territories alone. She flew back to the human village, but found in addition to it, a curious group of tents and flags.
Ovie flew to investigate it and saw that it was an odd place full of spectacle, magic, and curiosities. She was amazed at the humans in the carnival, seemingly not as she expected them to behave. She enjoyed many of the performances and magical acts, wanting to share the news with her village. She was approached and blocked by a little girl who caught her in her hands. Heating herself up, Ovie got the little girl to let her go, and she flew to safety within the carnival, where she suddenly was approached by a man in the shadows of a tent. At first afraid, Ovie was more surprised that the man was able to understand her, as fairy language is different from that of humans.
The man offered to grant her a wish she held in her heart, anything she desired, and in exchange all she had to do was sign a contract and join his carnival. What Ovie wanted more than anything was for her village to be safe from humans. But seeing more of humans, she realized she was mistaken in her judgement of them. Instead, she thought about the offer, and wanted to protect her home while at the same time, making a career of her magic and skills. She agreed to sign on for the traveling carnival, with the promise that her home will be untouched and she might return to it someday. In exchange, the curse at night she must bear requires her to rely on her arms and wings, as her legs would be rendered useless.
Circus Job: Fire Provider/Light Coordinator
Alternate Curse: During the night, she is paralyzed from the waist down and cannot walk until daytime.
Coralia
TLDR: Albino mermaid is rejected in the sea, and wants to learn about the world on land, so she signs the paper to learn things, and though she gets to leave her tank at night, when she snacks on land food her tail comes back ruining everything.
Coralia of the South Sea
Age: 55
Species: Mermaid
Appearance: Albino with white skin and a white tail. Her eyes are a pale red, and her lips a soft pink. Her long flowing hair is mainly white with some blonde hues and green highlights. Her fins are a transparent ghostly white with light pink on the edges. This includes her front fins, tail fin and membrane between her fingers. To cover her breasts she has a bra made of orange coral decorated with pearls. Additionally she also wears a gold belt around her hips.
Background: Coralia was an orphan of her ocean home in the south. She was not very liked, and was very much feared and bullied by other mermaids, young and grown, due to her appearance. She was born entirely white, albino. She was given up by her own mother and lived with other mer-children without parents to care for them and raise them. However, she was thought to bring bad luck, and even to be freak accident, she was rejected by the children and their caretakers. So, she tearfully swam away, where she came across an old valley with shipwrecks littering the ocean floor.
She struggled, living on her own, using the ships as her only shelters and safe haven. Unfortunately, it seemed some other mermaids were living there. For a while she kept out of sight so they wouldn’t notice her and drive her away, but she had almost no choice in the matter and realized it may come to her death or risk wandering the south sea unprotected. In a horrible stroke of luck, the mermaids living there all left, because of what returned to claim it’s trove of wrecked ships. A leviathan sea monster, twice the size of the largest whale in the sea. Though she wanted to flee with the other mermaids, it was too late, and poor Coralia was forced to live quietly and carefully, hidden from the sea beast, which would bring new shipwrecks to the bottom of the valley, feasting on the men and cargo they contained.
In a strange silver-lining of this rather dangerous life, Coralia got to learn about a world she had never even imagined, above the waves. She would explore the ships and the seabed for artifacts of the human world. Jewels, utensils, weapons, balls of metal, gloves, tools, and stones which looked like a face, were among the curiosities she uncovered. It fascinated her that there were these enormous floating villages, all with things inside them that she still didn’t understand what were there for. The more she found, the more she wanted to know.
One day her curiosity drew her right to the sea monster itself, as it slept. She found odd bones around it, and took a skull, comparing it to a statue bust she found. She imagined that the creature the skull once was a part of, might have had it’s likeness made in stone. She theorized the many shining bits of metal and precious stones were things the creatures might need to stay alive crossing the ocean, something to eat. One day she found a broken mirror with unknown words written on it, and upon looking in the mirror, she saw herself for the first time. She began to understand how her appearance may have been frightening and led to her mistreatment years ago. Sadly, she took the mirror with her, to add to her artifact collection. She was all alone, unable to leave with the monster outside, and she wasn’t sure if learning about such an alien world would lead to anything worthwhile.
That is, until one day, when she found something in one of the shattered wood curios of a ship. It was trove of things like she had never uncovered before, and it was delicate. She found a map with the strange words all over it, books, a few strange sticks which leaked ink like a squid, and most importantly, a round orb with words and shapes on it, identical to ones on the map she held. It had to mean something. Coralia took what she could, back to the ship she lived covertly in, and set down her lot.
Within a couple of weeks, she had begun to understand the writing, studying it carefully in the books she retrieved. Although she could only identify the letters, she did not know what they meant together. She figured the creatures that lived outside the sea must have very advanced eyes, if they communicated with visual letters. Eventually, she came across a book with pictures and words, drawing her curiosity to it’s peak. There were at last visual representations of the world above. She was shocked to see that the creatures had legs, like that of a sea urchin, only they stood on two. She also learned they came in many colors and had strange things they wore, perhaps to camouflage them into their surroundings.
Upon studying that picture book, she slowly learned words, like “SAIL” and “SEA” and “SAND”. She saw similar letters in the mirror inside the words she learned, and quickly picked up their significance. Her studying paid off within a couple of days, and she finally got to learn about the broken mirror’s message. It read, “Luck be with you. Sea by Sea. Until you come back to me.” Though Coralia wanted to know where this “BACK” place was, she suddenly found herself thrown from her sanctuary, as the monster had woken up, and saw her white tail glittering within it’s sight.
Swimming for her life, she tried to escape the beast, but it was too quick and ferocious. Though it managed to lose her in it’s pursuit of her, it’s gigantic tail thrust her far away with the force of 10 hurricanes. Coralia was thrown about in the waves around the surface of the sea, and was taken by a rougue wave, stirred up by the beast. It washed her far to the north, and left her dazed and unconscious, floating exhausted on the top of the sea, until she came to a large rocky shoal.
When she awoke, she was in pain from the damage done being nearly crushed by the waves and crushing splashes, but otherwise alive. She found she was surrounded by net, and out of the water. Panicked, she looked around at where she was, in another ship, but this time, one above the water. She was kept in the net in a brig of some kind, and was being sold off. Then she saw one of the land creatures for the first time, a small cabin boy, in the corner of the ship’s lower deck with her, afraid, but curious about her. She tried pleading with him, begging to be freed, but he could not understand her. She then took a scale from her side and scratched words into the wood post beside her. The boy understood her writing, “Help” and “Stuck”. He then ran up to the ship deck to tell the captain.
Unfortunately for Coralia, she had hoped to be freed, but instead was sold to an odd creature, with a curiously devious aura to him. Though brought to him, and given a tank to herself, she didn’t trust him. He mentioned that Coralia was the first mermaid he had encountered with the ability to read human language. He had no translator for mermaid tongue unfortunately, but he managed to get her to agree to sign a sheet of dry paper in exchange for letting her learn all she wished about the surface world, explaining to her that it will be her new home. Coralia wasn’t sure what she got herself into until it was too late, and she saw the effects of a nocturnal curse that made her tail split and transform into human legs. But the moment the sun rises, or she tastes food from the surface, her tail returns, making it very difficult to flee or return to her tank.
Circus Job: Freakshow Oddity
Alternate Curse: At night, she can walk about as a human but she changes back the instant she tastes human food.
