(Oh nooo! What the heck, console?!? Am looking into the error. Looks like it says you have to have NAT A or B for it to connect properly, which can be found/changed in your router settings. I'll try to check the router info on my end also just to make sure it's not me. NVM I can't access the router info here because it is not readily available without the proper login info lol.)

I mean, I managed to get the internet info to show up on my Switch and it's at NAT D, but I don't think I can access the internet to actually change it so all I really can do is maybe turn the router off and on again to see if that fixes it, if I can even find it, buried in the mess of my coworker's office.

It's still pretty infuriating that even though I've got a strong wifi connection, because it's lower than NAT A or B, nintendo's like, "Nah, you can't play"

Nope. I've only got a regular DS and Wild World. Never had the money for a 3ds. (The only reason I have a switch lite is because a friend managed to snag an animal crossing verson of the switch so they gave me their old console and kindly had bought me a digital download of ACNH as well.)

That's not quite an accurate description of the problem.

When there's a problem with NAT, it means that your Switch can't figure out how to ask your router to let other people connect to you. Your router apparently doesn't use one of the standard mechanisms for that task, or perhaps it's been configured to intentionally prevent letting programs ask for incoming connections.

It's certainly frustrating, but it's not Nintendo's fault.

I mean...according to literally every single "help, how do I fix (insert error codes/messages here)" troubleshooting guide I could find, the issue and solutions listed literally all said "oh, you need NAT A or B to make it work and you can adjust that in the router settings, easy peasy" basically so...*shrug*

Not saying you're wrong, what you said was probably way more accurate and informative than anything I've read all day tbh.

It's also pretty much all jibberish to me.

Either way, same location, same wifi worked with a different friend on Tuesday so idk

That sounds to me like the NAT was a red herring and there was just some unrelated network hiccup interfering.
