i'm anything BUT critical. there's really only one book i've been critical of, and that's because i'd read something on just about every page that reminded me of something else from somewhere else i've read. *sigh*

I am not usually too picky with books just because I'm generally just reading for entertainment so unless tje writing, characters, or plot are really horrible, I generally enjoy the book. There are a few genres that I really don't care for as a whole though.

@Kad; what genres are those?
I used to think syfy was beyond me, but now I understand it better because I know a bit more about science now. I read Hyperion and now am reading the sequel The Fall of Hyperion and if I'd tried it 2 years ago I would have read 10 pages and dumped it. There are a lot of genres and authors I won't read mostly I don't read pulp fiction.

@Trystan there is a lot of plagiarism in the book industry.
authors "borrow" whole passages sometimes from other books.

I don't read romance, crime/mystery/detective novels, and I avoid westerns.

Idon't read romance, and westerns, thrillers, court room stuff.
I like a good police procedural now and then. If they are well written, plotted and if the characters are deep then it is a good read. The best ever police procedural I have ever read is: Faithful Place by Tana French. If you ever want to expand a bit, try that one.

Eh. Police procedural just sounds like a fancy modern way of saying "detective/crime novel.

Moonshadow - oh i don't doubt that. but this book used plot devices and things that i'd read in a number of other series, and i'm not really a fan of reading through page after page 'this reminds me of Dark Hunters, and this reminds me of Rachel Morgan, and this sounds like the Chicagoland Vampires, and they did this in the 'Chosen' series....'
yeah, it gets tiring after a while. so i only read that first book, i think it's a trilogy?

@ Kad: I used to work at a library so "police procedural" is what the genre is called. There are now different categories of mysteries: some of which are craft mystery, cozy mystery etc etc. I have a friend that reads mysteries exclusively and she can rattle off all the sub-categories. When she was talking about "craft mysteries" I told she was saying "crap mysteries' because to me that's what they are.
@ Trystan: I am not a big fan of series. I knew Hyperion had a sequel and I am enjoying it, but I'm ready to get done. Now I find that there are two more books! (Endymion and The Rise of Endymion)

Ah I see...
I suppose regardless of various categories, those types of books are just boring to me.

@ Trystan: I might give them a try, but not right now. I'm almostfinished The Fall of Hyperion, it is not as good as Hyperion.
@ Kad: some of them can be quite boring! It depends on how well the main characters are developed, that is what makes it for me.

Hyperion was just so amazing, and a compelling read.
I actually wish I had stopped at Hyperion

Oops, clicked the wrong thread. Nothing to see here!
I'm still working on my own challenge I picked up last year. Anyone have any recommendations for a book with a pink cover?
