Reminds me, I need to look into knit vs loom knit cables and see how hard it would be to convert. I found a site that has all the Irish clan aran patterns so I want to make a blanket with mine, but it's needle knit only so might need converted some for the loom.

The cat's the perfect accessory.
Kaderin, I've been looking for a bear to rebody my childhood teddy bear that I gave away during a bad time. The bear was a distinct colour/pattern, and a very cheaply made doll, so I'm not seeing one anywhere second hand, and I haven't seen any modern bears the same colour/pattern. I'm not very active right now, because of stuff. If you don't see me around and you really need to get hold of me, you can yell at me over at one of these places? My blog. Trystan: I think step 1 is find a regular knit cable pattern similar to a cable blanket pattern I have and see how the cable sections compare. xP
I hate research. But this is important. Tam: Ah. Do you have any pictures of the bear? Since it's an older bear, I could see color matching being an issue for sure, but if it came right down to it, custom dying yarn for it could be a possibility. (Which would also give me an excuse to get into yarn dyeing again, lol)

yesh, that makes sense.
here's what i know about knit cables: if you have a cable of 4 stitches, when you do the cable cross-over part, you take 1&2 off the needles, knit 3&4, and then put 1&2 back on, then knit 1&2. they make cable needles that you can put the live loops on until you need them, so they don't drop. if that makes sense to you, maybe you can figure it out for the loom?

Yeah, I mostly get how that works on the loom. Just...the pattern for the aran is a bit more intricate seeming and has sections that are more...cabled waves rather than braids? Idk, it's hard to explain...
Here's what it looks like as a swatch and also made up as a sweater: I think I can probably convert the pattern easily enough with my basic understanding of cables, but it's an intimidating task.

yeah, those are some intricate cables. i'd need a chart if i was crocheting that... and making charts can also be intimidating.

Time to buy the pattern and just see what it tells me! Lol.
But I also do have to keep in mind to watch the stitches a bit as with needle knitting, the work would be flipped back and forth, on the loom it isn't.

yeah, that makes sense cables on a loom would be created differently.
i'm curious to see how they're made! :D

Good thing I have "throwaway" yarns I can test the pattern with! Lol.
Aka: Yarn that I was gonna give away, but might save a couple.

Most of mine I never had plans for. They were yarns forced upon me because "oh, you do (insert yarn craft), here, you can have my (insert deceased relative)'s yarn stash!". Lots of red heart and similarly cheap and not very soft acrylic yarns.

Trim= white paws, white ear linings, and white muzzle. The original bear's arms were too small to have the white on them, but her feet did, and I wouldn't be bothered if the new one had white on all feet and hands.
